so lastnight was great.
i am way too tired for my own good and i have work from 3-11:30pm tonight.
tomorrow is the day off so that is awesome.

greeley estates and their tour manager d-bo were awesome and a half.
total rockstar energy onstage, total "take home to meet the parents" offstage.
they were so nice to everyone on the empire crew.

at the end of the night i asked ryan of greeley estates if i could snap a photo of him and he offered to go get the rest of band.

i ended up with only three members but it's all good.

never have i met a band so willing to be photographed after the show without stage clothes, and not so freshened up.

they all looked good though :)

in other news, honda civic tour and warped are just a week away.
if you see me, feel free to come up and say hello!
it was pretty cute lastnight at the show,
a kid came up and asked for a photo with me.
he was a sweet kid, probably 13 or 14.
i told him i'd say hello to him in my blog, but i forgot his name :( sorry buddy!
you had an awesome shirt on though!
alkaline trio are one of my fave bands :)

alright, time to go and get ready for work.

so lastnight was hilarious.
dana i went to java aroma, a.k.a java.
it's the place where i photograph a lot of bands 'cos it's connected to the empir theatre.
anyhow, we're just chillaxin' and reggie from "i work at the mall" fame comes by and sit's across from us we're dishin' about the mall and what has been said about him.
good times.
well, a while passes and this dude sits down on the high table next to the couches and is laughing when we laugh, is serious when we're serious, and even says "yeah!!" when we say "yeah!!" so as you can possibly guess by now, dana and i don't know him.
neither does reggie haha.
so reggie includes this guy into our convo right? ok.
and he introuduced himself to reggie, then to me "what is your name?" "it's iris..." "ohh iris? i will rememba dat name..."
and here is the good stuff...
"YOU!!!" he shouts, as he leans over the cover table, hovering over me to point at dana.
"YOU!!!! I am watching. Your expressions!!"
"whaaaa?" by this time dana loooked like she was gonna cry hhahaha.
"Your hair, it covers one eye. So you can only see out of the other eye!"
"It's her, her, cryshield!!! Shes EMO!!" I say laughing.
"Is that, mean she eats no meat?" he asked.
"No, no man, it means shes all ... well... look at her." chimed in Reggie.
hahhaa then we found out he was from jamaica and reggie told dana to be careful cos the guy might go stalk her.
lol too cute.

and to top it all off, there was this dude.
by himself.
playing his lil psp.
all alone.
listening in our convos and crackin' up like no other.

haha good times.
saw some other people from the mall there too.
must mention however miles has a sweet ride.
it's the morrissey car for real.
not for fake.
ask him to give you a ride haha.

waking.up.slowly.but.surely.
iced water instead of caffiene.
it's killing me.
well, not really, but it's taking me long to wake up.

work from 12-8.

the show for tomorrow is cancelled.
friday is greeley estates over at the empire.
you all better be there!

i forgot to mention a really, reeeeally good band who opened the show lastnight:
PAULSON http://myspace.com/paulson
they were amazingly fun.
i can't remember the last time i danced that much?
t was fantastarrifffffic.

i don't want to drag myself to get ready.

blegghh.

sidenote: if you see me at a show, feel free to come up and say hello! i keep getting messages on myspace saying "i saw you at the show.." then come on by and say.
seriously! :)

the guys in this providence rock way too hard.
especially when they're on their laptops and talkin via iChat and iVideo with a girl lol
"see that's what a guys restroom looks like"
and the poor little guy who was waiting to use the mens room, had to use the rest room really bad hahaha

"it smells like pee!! and celery!!" lol
or random things like those pics i took backstage from the side of the stage.
time to sleep. will write more later. work from 12-8. need to rest.

so i was at work today and i walk up to a group of kids.
i know one of them from this booth at the mall.
anyhow, i ask them if they need help, and one of the boys says
"sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me."
hahah i'd rather the other boy have said it.

anyway, my eye is irritated and i need to buy eyedrops.

hahah i'm on the phone with my friend and she said that travie of gym class heroes does the carlton dance in the outtakes of dance, dance to which i reply, we saw that shit live and in person haha last summer at the warped tour trailer trash party.
good times.

so i just got a message i'm going to work on warped for three shows now i think.

weird.

i've been thinking of compiling a list of songs that just make me happy or make me feel, i don't know what, just, that actually. they make me FEEL something.
plain white t's - hey there delilah
bob dylan - leopard skin pillbox hat
placebo - every you every me
nine inch nails - and all that could have been
sherwood - middle of the night
depeche mode - (geez, pretty much almost any song of theirs haha)
list is not completed but these are a few of them.

so lastnight i dreamnt i was having dinner and to my left was kara, a very close friend of mine who is getting married.
i haven't seen her for since october of last year, since i moved to stockton i've only been back to fresno once.
in the dream there was someone else there a musician friend of a friend and he was giving me dirty looks.
i said something like "i like this song, i think it's great you can hear the influence of who they admire."
and he stood up from the table and walked off and sat down at his computer.
some time passes and i walk over towards him and he says "i hate you. i can't believe you want them to not have their own sound. isn't that what music is about? having your own sound? being you and someone you're not?"

and then we were playing with a kitten and i woke up.

so weird.
even weirder?
a few minutes ago there was a stray kitty in my backyard :(

even weirder than that?
music follows a cycle.
it's like life, history does repeat itself, therefore causing music to repeat fundemental elements.
live with it!

Photos I shot of Sound The Alarm and Sherwood:

chardonnay eequals love

so my friday night was spent drinking a bottle of chilled chardonnay and working.
i resized and uploaded photos of bands, check the myspace.com/iriswasabi for more info.
so i am a little buzzed still fromthe chardonnay.
i think i shall go to bed since it's super early now.
nite nite all.
p.s. read "empire of blue water" i just finished reading it.
it's a great read if you like history and pirates.

sleep or something like it.

i didn't get to bed until.... i don't know.
i know it was early morning though.

i am terribly tired and kicking myself for vowing not to drink energy drinks until the 30th of june and 1st of july when i will need the major cans of whoop ass to keep me awake and photographing.

Paolo Nutini :
why hasn't anyone mentioned this wonderous man?!
i love the style.
it's a little bit crooner but a little richard ashcrofty.
veddy veddy nice.

ice water just does not do it first thing in the morning.
so i broke the fast and i am going to start again today.
time to go get ready for work.
12-7 today.

i have a show at the empire, Sherwood is playing tonight so i am all over photographing that one!

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

let's dance! put on your red shoes and daaaance...

ok, tell me why this damn show, so you think you can dance, has got my almost full attention (nothing ever has it fully...)?
my room mates and i are now all over youtube looking for that crap lol

and 24.
i've just gotten addicted to that show on dvd this past february.

speaking of shows.
mika and i (below) are destined for youtube greatness: coming soon.

and you shall know me by the trail of ... i don't know what.

had an interview with pete of Jam Factory Concerts.
you are now reading the blog of the official house photographer for The Empire Theatre Stockton and also, the photographer for Jam Factory Concerts, on top of my freelance photography for magazines too haha.

tomorrow night is sherwood at the empire.
i like them.
it should be a lot of fun.

i'm really happy right now that people are responding to my photography in a good way.

more later loves.

life is ....

tiring.
i remember i used to post in my blogspot a lot back in 2001.
i never wrote anything that wasn't superficial though.
it was all "this is so cool... ohmygosh."
it's always interesting to go back and read what we've written and see how far we've come in life.
my grammar has gotten worse, i'll give you that much.
at least i think it has.

this is not going to be plastered everwhere.
if you read it, thank you for your time.
i appreciate the space i take up in people heads.

it's time to go get ready for work now.
12-8pm today.
this means i get to take a taxi home tonight :)
i actually enjoy it.
it's almost as if the taxi has a million other lives behind it, and it starts anew with the opening and closing of your door.
